Graduation paper about optimizing channel switching times for digital television, delivered through a DSL access network. By providing additional low quality streams, the period of time a user sees "nothing" is greatly reduced and channel switching becomes much less disruptive. The selection of low quality streams is based on viewing behaviour of the individual users as well as the entire user population.
