Jess McCulloch’s Summary
As a teacher, I am passionate about seeing students achieve to the best of their abilities. I set high standards for my students and support them so they can reach their own highest level, often achieving more than they originally thought they could. As a language teacher, I am passionate about integrating ICT into the LOTE classroom – particularly Web 2.0 tools like blogs and podcasts. I find that using these tools not only engages students, but is providing them with 21st century skills that will make up an integral part of their futures. As a Chinese teacher, I am passionate about engaging students in such a different culture, but also showing them that there are many similarities between their culture and Chinese culture. Also, the Chinese language is a fascinating one and I am highly motivated to share the magic of it with my students through games, collaborative projects with other schools (nationally and internationally) and other activities that cater for all learning styles.
My professional goals:
*to integrate much higher use of ICT (particularly Web2.0 technologies) into my classes, effectively turning my classroom into an eLearning Unit.
*to lead several more school trips to China
*to create links between my classroom and other Chinese teaching classrooms around the world, and also classrooms in China.
*to provide support for other LOTE teachers through one of my blogs: http://www.technolote.com
