Essentially I am a problem-solver. I like to be given complex problems, break them down into their constituent parts and then work out a plan on how to solve the problem in the most effective way possible. This is primarily the reason why the design and implementation of software has appealed to me. However, software is just one of the types of problems I like to solve - I am skilled and have experience in many areas of strategy including sales, marketing, branding, people and technology management.
In the past I have done mathematical modelling of procurement processes, business strategy, design, implementation and management of business critical technology environments (Johannesburg and Durban Internet Exchanges). I have also been involved in regulatory lobbying, writing and responding to position papers on the behalf of industry bodies on diverse topics such as Interconnection guidelines and the Interception and Monitoring of Telecommunications. I have chaired and facilitated numerous executive level workshops and run committees for industry bodies.
I have also been responsible for the co-ordination, management and implementation of corporate social responsibility projects, assisting development organisations providing specialist knowledge to under-developed regions in southern Africa with the aim of bridging the “digital divide”. (Consulting provided to the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), United Nations Sustainable Development Network Programme (SDNP), The World Bank, International Telecommunications Union and Commonwealth Telecommunications Association CTO).
Most recently I have been involved in the Investment Banking industry working on numerous front-office software development projects for JP Morgan Chase and Royal Bank of Scotland.
