Leo de Penning’s Summary
My name is Leo de Penning and I am currently working at TNO Defence, Security and Safety within the business unit Human Factors. The unit its main business is research and innovation in the area of Defence and Security with the focus on human behaviour and men-machine interaction. My main role here is the development of new and integration of existing software and knowlegde to support various research projects.
Before that I worked for Atos Origin TA. There I participated in several projects in space, defence or transport, performing tasks ranging from software development to project management.
Before that I worked at StarLab in Brussels where I was working with Prof. Hugo de Garis on Artificial Brainbuilding. Using a CAM Brain Machine, which allows rapid development of artificial brains using evolution and neurocomputing, we were building artificial brains for various purposes, like neuro science modelling, robotics, machine conscience research, image processing, speech processing, pattern recognition, etc.
I did my graduation at the Faculty of Computer Science on the subject of Self-learning Operating Systems. During my study I did several AI projects using neural networks and genetic algorithms. Besides Artificial Intelligence, I'm also interested in Virtual Reality and its possibilities.
