Mike Holland (52) started his career working in the construction industry as a graduate structural engineer. He subsequently moved into journalism, writing for specialist magazines reporting on the engineering industry, and later worked on a local daily newspaper.
He returned to work within industry as a public relations specialist, with spells working ‘in house’ within a major engineering company and in a large consultancy.
In 1987 he was a founding partner in Smye Holland Associates, the Peterborough-based marketing and public relations consultancy which he continues to manage. The firm specialises in working with clients in the environment, engineering and high-technology sectors and within the social housing, property and development market.
His other business interests include a non-executive directorship of Inverse Path Ltd, a computer security consultancy.
Mike is a member (and former chairman) of the Peterborough Regional Economic Partnership; a trustee, director and former vice-chairman of Peterborough Environment City Trust and a non-executive director of the trust's trading subsidiary, PECT Consultancy Ltd.
He is a Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). His professional qualifications include an honours degree in engineering and a diploma in marketing as well as membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. He is a former secretary of the CIM’s Leicestershire branch and is a member of the executive committee of the Marketing Network, a national organisation for senior marketing executives which is affiliated to the CIM.
